Yes, I am sure this question has been asked a million time but if you don't ask....

Which are the best audience recordings out there? The one's where not only do you get a sweet sound but you get the whole vibe of the crowd. Kinda like 80-90 stuff but game for anything.

Scary question these day's (at least at 4:20)
Well here's one,

Jim Wise's excellent hand held recording of the 9/12/81 Greek Show works for me. A very nice Aud! Kudo's to Jim, a grateful hero that day! ha! here >>

The pulling of sdbs for download was a backhanded favor. A good aud. recording is like the chubby girl who balls to be remembered while the prom queen sdb is worried about her hair getting messed up. If the band had not pulled the boards the effort that the tapers made over the years would have been less appreciated than they were a year ago. Some of the best quality aud. recordings come from the pre-taper's section days('78-'83). Here are a few.......12-19-78, 5-1-80, 4-28-80(GDTRFB encore to top it off). 9-26-81, 11-29-80, 12-12-80(set 1 posting), 9-2-80(sugaree, china rider, dew....), 2-20-82, 6-18,20-83, etc.......Even if you think you have heard it all just stream random shows(don't ignore the lukewarm reviewed shows, you will be surprised at the nuggets that still lie buried in spite of all the hounds searching).

I agree.

Auds rule, well 90% of the time anyway.

SBDs are for newbs.

very very true - some of the auds are so far superior to the muddy, watered down sound of 90's sbds. Diana posted a couple of great links to superior sounding auds extremely well balanced recordings. ive checked a couple out and the sound quality is amazing. just like your sitting in the 17th row and virtually no "annoying" crowd noise to drown out the music - the crowd noise is actually very welcome in those recording - gives the truly live feel.
